MWOS 2008 - Day 01
On our 1st day, The ManyWayOfSeeing (MWOS) 2008 workshop kick start at one of the finest nature reserve in Singapore, the Singapore Botanical Garden. The facilator, designers and students fro various school were asked to gather at near Swan Lake this morning by 9:30am. Felix and I were pair up a a team and handed with about 42 students respectably from Teck Whye Secondary School and Chua Choo Kang Secondary School. The students were from their Sec 1, 2 and 3. Soo Yin the personal in-charge from Singapore Polytechnic gave the student some generally briefed about what to expect over the 5 days and handed with a MWOS2008 handbook. We spend the entire morning there doign 'See As' - Observe, See, Study and students were encouarage to take as much photos of the things that inspire them.
Then we had our break at 12 noon, which most of us had our lunch at the food court near the Tanglin Carpark entrance. By 2 pm, the students were asked to meet back at Singapore Polytechnic.
In the afternoon session student were asked to select 5-10 photos taken this morning and print it out to share with the rest of the class about their observation. Felix and I gave the student some backgrounds nof ourself and proceed to guide them with the task to guide the student about the design process with the materials they had in hands. We started of by asking student to present their photos and what they 'SEE' from the photos they had taken. From there we slowly guide the student to understand why is this step necessary in design and how to benefits from the photos using design point of views...
